NVIDIA Broadcast setup for streamers: clean mic, priced in frames
If your rig clears the RTX bar, this is the shortest page on the site in spirit: install, route, measure. Broadcast is the free tool everyone else gets compared to — the only bill is GPU headroom, and you’re about to measure it.
Spec check first
Requirements, verified against NVIDIA’s page on the build date: GeForce RTX 2060, Quadro RTX 3000, TITAN RTX or higher · 8 GB RAM minimum · Windows 10/11 64-bit · NVIDIA driver R570 or newer. Current version 2.2.1, price free, no tiers. Card too old? The legacy RTX Voice lane exists for you.
Setup, chip by chip
- Install Broadcast from NVIDIA’s site, reboot if the installer asks.
- In the app’s Microphone tab: source = your real mic, effect = Noise Removal (add Room Echo Removal only if your room needs it — audio effects available: Noise Removal, Room Echo Removal, Studio Voice).
- Route your apps to the virtual devices:
One rule: pick the Broadcast device in the apps, not as the Windows default for everything — system sounds don’t need AI, and your GPU doesn’t need the hobby.
Frame budget — measure yours, 60 seconds
Broadcast runs on your GPU’s tensor cores — the same silicon your game is using. Anyone quoting an exact FPS cost without your rig in hand is selling something — run the benchmark instead:
- Pick a repeatable scene (same map spot, same settings) with an FPS overlay running.
- Note average FPS for 30 seconds, filter OFF.
- Toggle the filter ON. Same scene, 30 seconds, note it again.
- The difference is your real cost. Re-check after driver updates.
Community reports put modern-GPU costs in the low single digits and older RTX 2060-class cards higher — treat those as rumors with good intentions, not specs. Your overlay outranks every forum post, ours included.
The OBS-filter alternative
OBS ships an NVIDIA Noise Removal option inside its own Noise Suppression filter — same engine, no Broadcast app running (Noise Suppression filter methods: RNNoise (default, higher quality, more CPU), Speex (lighter, adjustable level, default -30 dB), NVIDIA Noise Removal (needs NVIDIA Broadcast SDK/redistributable + RTX GPU)). Choose it when OBS is the only place you need cleanup; choose the app when Discord, Zoom and the stream should all hear the same clean mic. Details in the OBS suppression guide.
Worth saying once
The obvious matchup — Broadcast against Krisp — mostly resolves by hardware: if your card qualifies, run Broadcast free and see if any wall remains before reading the paid-lane page. The walls that survive are cross-app life beyond Windows, and cleaning what you hear from squadmates in every app, not just Discord.

- Does NVIDIA Broadcast work with OBS?
- Two ways: run the Broadcast app and select its virtual mic in OBS, or skip the app and add OBS’s own NVIDIA Noise Removal filter (same SDK, needs the Broadcast redistributable installed). App = one behavior everywhere; filter = OBS-only but lighter footprint.
- What does NVIDIA Broadcast require?

- Should I use Noise Removal and Room Echo Removal together?
- Only if you need both — each effect spends its own slice of GPU. Bare room with hard walls: echo removal earns its cost. Treated-ish room with a fan problem: noise removal alone, and keep the frames.
